An Akwa Ibom-born legal practitioner has taken swipe at the way the state financial resources are spent by past and present elected office holders to the detriment of the poor masses.

Inibehe Effiong who in his X on Sunday was unhappy with the manner of spending of the financial resources by the past and present Governors in the state.

Effiong wrote ‘‘I find it upsetting when some people complain about my acerbic choice of words whenever I respond to the stealing of public resources by evil politicians.

‘‘You want me to be nice and diplomatic with savages and arrogant thieves whose criminal actions have resulted in death, impoverishment, unemployment, and suffering?

These politicians are siphoning billions of public money while the masses are in penury but your grouse is with my harsh words.’’

According to him, ‘‘I do not seek reconciliation with the Akwa Ibom State Government or the Nigerian Government. Like Gani Fawehinmi said, there will never be a meeting point for the purpose of reconciliation.

It is not a personal matter.

If there is any politician or government official that I have ever demanded or accepted money from as settlement or to stop my criticisms, please share such information publicly.

My greatest frustration is with the people who are the victims of this continuous and exponential stealing and exploitation.

Once a politician wears a fake religious hat, it blinds the people of Akwa Ibom State and makes them subservient.

The Human Rights lawyer recalled ‘‘From Akpabio, to Udom, and now Umo Eno, Akwa Ibom has been in bondage but many people are not ready to admit it for reasons best known to them.

Akpabio started this insane culture of waste and imposed Udom on us when he was leaving, not because Udom was good for the State, but for his own selfish reasons.

Udom plundered the State and left us with Umo Eno who has now continued in the path of ruination.

How can a governor contemplate spending the sum of N20 billion on maintenance of a single private jet in the midst of growing economic crisis and hunger?

This is in addition to other outrageous, dubious and crazy budgetary allocations that billions have been earmarked for.

What we have been witnessing in Akwa Ibom State is criminality laced with madness.

It is sad that many Akwa Ibom youths have accepted political slavery and internal colonialism as the norm, and are making silly excuses for the plundering of our State’s resources.

Umo Eno is building mansions for himself like his predecessors while using religion and his occasional performative acts to deceive the public.

They keep saying that Umo Eno is nice and a good man, but look at the fraudulent budgetary allocations he is undertaking.

We are yet to witness tangible developments and infrastructural projects since he was sworn-in.

I weep for Akwa Ibom State.’’
