    Police Pick 63 Suspects, Rescue 22 Trafficking Victims in Akwa Ibom

    The Akwa Ibom State Police Command picked 63 suspects and rescued 22 trafficking victims in two months this year.

    This was as the command announced sweeping security breakthroughs in the fight against violent crime, cultism, kidnapping, and human trafficking across the state.

    Briefing journalists at the State Police Headquarters, Ikot Akpan Abia, Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, said the command recorded 75 major cases from August 1 to September 3, 2025, leading to the arrest of 63 suspects and the recovery of 19 firearms and 104 rounds of ammunition.

    “These operational successes are not only testament to the commitment, diligence, and professionalism of our officers but also the collaborative support of the good people of Akwa Ibom State,” the CP stated.

    Cultism: 18 suspects arrested, including seven cultists linked to the Ku Klux Klans Confraternity who attacked a student at Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic. Recovered items included firearms, charms, and even a human skull.

    Armed Robbery: Several notorious gang leaders neutralized or arrested, with firearms, motorcycles, and stolen items recovered.

    Kidnapping: Police foiled multiple kidnap attempts, arrested six suspects, and rescued two victims. Arms seized included AK-47 rifles, pump-action shotguns, and pistols.

    Human Trafficking: In a joint operation with INTERPOL and Ghana Police, operatives rescued 20 Ghanaians trafficked to Uyo. Two more victims were freed following the arrest of a notorious trafficker, Alex Omosivie.

    Car Theft & Vandalism: Syndicates dismantled, four stolen vehicles recovered, and suspects caught with fake number plates, camouflage uniforms, and cable theft equipment.

    Fake Doctor Arrested: A self-styled ophthalmologist nabbed for administering unapproved substances to hundreds of unsuspecting residents.

    Armed Robbery: 7 cases, Murder: 2 cases, Cultism: 15 cases and Vandalism: 3 cases

    Human Trafficking: 2 cases (22 victims rescued)
