As the world marked the birth of Jesus Christ, the Coordinator of the Office of the First Lady in Akwa Ibom, Lady Helen Eno-Obareki, on Thursday welcomed the first baby born on Christmas day in the state.
The baby-a female- was born at Ikot Ekpene General Hospital to the family of Mr and Mrs Lawrence Umoh from Ikot Osom in Obot Akara Ikara Local Government at 00:01am, weighing 2.6 kg.
In the spirit of the season, Lady Obareki showered the baby with cash and gift items during her early morning visit to the hospital.
The First Lady-designate, who thanked God for the safe delivery of the Christmas baby and other babies, noted that being born on Christmas and sharing the same birthday with the Saviour of the world, the Lord Jesus Christ was greatly significant.

She extended the love of Christmas by presenting cash and gifts to all the babies and their mothers in the ward.
”As we have been doing in the past, we are here to receive our Christmas baby for the State. This is very significant to us because as Christians, the baby shares the same birthday with our Lord Jesus Christ. We wish her and the family all the best that the future has to offer,” she remarked.
In her response, the Chief Medical Superintendent of Ikot Ekpene General Hospital, Dr. Nene Andem, thanked the First Lady for coming to the hospital to receive the Christmas baby and stated that the baby and all other babies were in good condition.
Speaking on behalf of all the nursing mothers at the maternity ward, the mother of the star baby, Mrs. Nsisong Lawrence Umoh, offered words of appreciation to the Governor of the State and the First Lady for coming to welcome her baby and other babies with cash and gift items.
She prayed God to bless and reward their labour of love.
On hand to receive Lady Helen Eno Obareki, was the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Mrs Inibehe Etukudo, and political stakeholders of the area including Senator Emmanuel Ibokessien, the Commissioner for Environment and Mineral Resources, Hon. Nsikak Ekong and wife, the wife of the Chairman of Ikot Ekpene, Mrs. Affiong Nkom and others, while inmates of the children’s ward welcomed the Coordinator with Christmas hymns.
