One hundred participants were empowered by the member representing Ukanafun/Oruk Anam Federal Constituency, Dr. Unyime Idem, with 100 brand new Hewlett-Packard (HP) laptop computers to boost their cybersecurity skills.
The trainees also got cash grants with an all-expense training to support their career and entrepreneurial pursuits in the technology space.
Rep. Idem, who spoke at the end of the training through the Managing Director of Akrosamic Investments Limited, Elder Samuel Akpan, restated that the training and empowerment programme was to equip the trainees with the requisite skill to succeed in today’s technology-driven world.
“You have been empowered with the skills, tools and contacts to function, compete, expand and dominate the tech space, which is an unending world of opportunities. Very importantly, be guided by the Cybercrime Act, so you don’t run foul of the law, while trying to make a living.

“Stay updated with the latest trends and technologies, share your knowledge. Mentor others and contribute to your community, innovate and create. Use your skills to solve real-world problems.”
Idem, who is also the Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Public Procurement, thanked Syide Consultancy Limited, for training the participants and empowering them with valuable skills, hoping that the investment would undoubtedly have a lasting impact on the trainees and the constituency.
In his closing remarks, the Managing Director of Syide Consultancy Limited, Mr. Michael Adewole, praised the trainees for their attentiveness and involvement in the course of the exercise, stressing that the skills acquired will open doors to new opportunities, enhance employability, and foster innovation.
In their separate reactions, the beneficiaries expressed immense gratitude to Rep. Idem for sponsoring the training, promising to deploy the skills gained profitably for life sustenance.
Earlier on Thursday, Idem had declared open a three-day intensive capacity training on Cybersecurity for 100 youths from his Federal constituency.
Speaking through the pioneer Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Akwa Ibom state, Dr. Amadu Attai, Idem said the capacity-building training was designed to equip youths with relevant digital and cybersecurity skills.
Idem stated that the training was part of my deliberate effort to prepare young people of Ukanafun/Oruk Anam for opportunities in the fast-growing digital economy.
He stressed that ‘‘our youths must not be left behind in the global digital revolution. This training is designed to equip young men and women from Ukanafun and Oruk Anam with practical cybersecurity skills that can open doors to employment, entrepreneurship and remote work opportunities.
‘‘It is my expectation that beyond technical skills, the training will also expose participants to relevant provisions of Nigeria’s Cybercrime (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act to promote responsible and lawful use of digital platforms.’’
In his remarks, the training organizer and Managing Director of Cassell Consultancy Limited, Mr. Michael Adewole, remarked that participants will receive hands-on training in online safety, data protection, ethical hacking basics, emerging cybersecurity trends, cyber security fundamentals, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and entrepreneurial tools, positioning them for gainful engagement in the ICT sector.
Beneficiaries of the programme described the initiative as timely and impactful, noting that it will enhance digital literacy, reduce unemployment and discourage involvement in cyber-related crimes within the constituency.

The cybersecurity training forms part of my broader commitment to youth empowerment, capacity development and sustainable human capital growth in Ukanafun/Oruk Anam Federal Constituency.
Recall that last year, Idem equally sponsored the training of 100 young constituents on Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and Digital Entrepreneurship, in which the participants went home with brand new laptops and cash grants.
