The Senator representing Ebonyi North Senatorial District in the Nigeria’s 10th Senate, Peter Onyekachi Nwebonyi, has extended humanitarian gesture to an Akwa Ibom person.
Senator Nwebonyi who demonstrated a spontaneous act of kindness during a visit to Akwa Ibom for the International Women’s Day celebrations provided a tricycle also known as Keke Napep in Nigeria costs about N4 million to the unemployed.
The beneficiary, Ini-Emem Isaiah in a Facebook post by Umoren Ebong, said the Senator, approached him in a friendly manner.
The senator, who is also the Deputy Chief Whip and a close ally to Senate President Godswill Obot Akpabio, engaged Isaiah in a brief conversation, and offered to bless him.
”They later exchanged contact information,” according to Ebong, an indigene of Abak Local Government Area.
‘’During their interaction, Isaiah specifically requested a tricycle as a form of empowerment. Next day, Isaiah received a call from the Senator’s team, and the tricycle was delivered to him at a designated location in Ikot Ekpene.’’
In his social media, Senator Nwebonyi wrote, “I met this young man, Ini-Emem Isaiah, in Ikot Ekpene. He described his challenging living conditions and expressed a desire to start a Keke (tricycle) transport business to support his family.
”Moved by his situation, I asked how I could help. As a married man with children, I felt it was my duty to assist, not because I have excess, but because we, as Nigerians, should look beyond our differences.
‘Humility helps us recognise those in need. Although I am Igbo and he is Akwa Ibomite, that didn’t matter. Seeing him struggle on the street motivated me to help,” he noted.
The Senator, however, is said to have provided guidance on operating the tricycle effectively for transportation and business purposes.
Observers reiterated that the act of kindness not only empowered Isaiah but also reinforced the political ties between Senator Nwebonyi and Senator Akpabio’s Empowerment Scheme beyond the senatorial district and the state.
