Sporting Lagos has won promotion back to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) following a 1-0 away win over Osun United at the Lanre Leke Township Stadium in Ileogbo on Thursday.
This was as Akwa United failed to regain automatic promotion to the NPFL despite beating Solution F.C. 2-1 at Awka Stadium in Anambra State.
The Lagos Island-based club defied a hostile atmosphere to win the all-important final day match, thanks to a first-half goal scored by Alex Leme.
The Tech Boys finished top of the Nigeria National League (NNL) Conference B to secure one of four promotion tickets, ahead of second-placed Akwa United, who defeated Solutions FC.
Sporting Lagos finished the season with 36 points from 18 matches, one point ahead of Akwa United. They are the third privately owned club to gain promotion into the NPFL from the NNL this season, following in the footsteps of Inter Lagos and Doma United.
The promotion of Sporting Lagos will see three clubs from Lagos State represented in the 2026/27 season of the NPFL, with Sporting joining Ikorodu City FC and Inter Lagos.
However, the promise keepers garnered 34 points on the Conference B log after 18 matches in the 2025/2026 football season.
The two-time winners of F.A Cup having crawled in the NPFL for a season were relegated during the 2024/2025 football season.
