Undeterred by the visit of Governor Udom Emmanuel to Etim Ekpo local government area on Wednesday for peace meeting, some unknown gunmen have killed the youth leader of Ikot Edet in the area, Straightnews was told.

Udeme Daniel Akpan, whose house was set ablaze by unknown arsonists two weeks ago, was killed Thursday morning in Ibio Nung Achat where he had holed himself after the mayhem in his village.

A source hinted Straightnews that the gunmen trailed and killed Akpan in the house of his relation where he was sleeping, stating that after the killing, the gang men shot sporadically throughout the night to scare fear-stricken villagers and security operatives.

An unidentified source in the village told Straightnews “The killing may not be unconnected with the jungle justice meted out to two robbery suspects caught by vigilante in Ikot Edet two years ago.

“It was later discovered that the dead robbery suspects were members of a cultic group operating in the area, robbing, killing, raping and kidnapping persons in the area.”

Recall that one week ago, Chief Mfon Udoessien, village of Ikot Edet was released after his family had paid ransom to his abductors.

In another development, some suspected gunmen have abducted a woman from Obong Ntak said to be the relative of a commissioner in the state Local Government Service Commission.

As early as 5 a.m, Wednesday, the gunmen had visited the compound and wanted to whisk away Mrs. Alice Sampson Eshiet, mother of Ekpuk Eshiet, Commissioner 11 in the commission, but she tricked them and bolted through the backdoor.
In anger, the gunmen abducted Mrs. Isong Eshiet, a sister in-law to Ekpuk, to an unknown destination, Straightnews gathered.

An indigene of the village who confided in Straightnews said the abductors have not yet reached out to the family.

Straightnews could not reach Eno Sunday Joshua, the village head of Obong Ntak.

Efforts by our correspondent to reach Ekpuk, the commissioner and DSP Diko O. Macdon, the Police Public Relations Officer for Akwa Ibom Police State Command for confirmation proved abortive as their telephones were ringing, yet there was no response.
