    Akwa Ibom Police Quiz Two Suspects over stolen Vehicle

    The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has quizzed two suspects arrested over possession of a vehicle stolen from Delta State.

    This came as the command another significant operational success with the recovery of a stolen vehicle and arrested two suspects linked to vehicle theft and the unlawful receipt of stolen property.

    A press release signed by DSP Timfon John, the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer for the state Commissioner of Police said ‘‘Acting on credible intelligence, operatives of the command launched a swift intelligence-led operation which culminated in the arrest of one Isaac Akpan, 27yrs of Akwebom Village, Obot Akara Local Government Area.

    ‘‘During interrogation, the suspect confessed to stealing a white Daihatsu Hijet mini truck loaded with bags of sachet water from the pure water factory where he was employed in Agbor South, Delta State.

    According to the release, the suspect stated that after selling the entire consignment of sachet water, he used the proceeds to purchase fuel and drove the stolen vehicle to Akwa Ibom State, before he sold it to another individual.

    ‘‘Further investigation led operatives to one Aloysius Aniekan, 45yrs of Agric Road, Ikot Ekpene, who was found in possession of the stolen vehicle. The suspect had allegedly re-registered the vehicle with a new registration number in an apparent attempt to conceal its identity. He was promptly arrested for receiving stolen property.

    ‘‘The stolen white Daihatsu Hijet mini truck has since been recovered and taken into police custody as exhibits,’’ it added.

    The Commissioner of Police, Akwa Ibom State Command, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, fsi, has commended the operatives for their professionalism, diligence, and prompt response, reiterating the Command’s unwavering commitment to intelligence-driven policing and the protection of lives and property across the state.

    The Akwa Ibom State Police Command also urges residents to remain vigilant and continue supporting the Police with timely and credible information, as community partnership remains vital in combating crime and enhancing public safety.

    Police arrest suspected vehicle thief

    In a similar operation, the command arrested a suspected vehicle thief and the recovery of a stolen vehicle in a well-coordinated intelligence-led operation by operatives of the Command.

    ‘‘On 5th July, 2026, at about 1730hrs, operatives of the Command , acting on credible and actionable intelligence, arrested one Anietie  Etim, male, aged 36 years, of Ifa Atai Village, Uyo Local Government Area, Akwa Ibom State, and recovered one blue Daihatsu Hijet Mini Bus with Registration Number KMK 625 ZT, suspected to have been unlawfully taken from its rightful owner.

    ‘‘Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect, a commercial driver based in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, was entrusted with the vehicle under a hire-purchase arrangement. However, in breach of the agreement, he allegedly absconded with the vehicle without the knowledge or consent of the owner and relocated it to Uyo with the intention of disposing of it.

    ‘‘Acting swiftly on intelligence, operatives of the Command intercepted the suspect before he could execute his criminal plan, leading to his arrest and the successful recovery of the vehicle,’’

    ‘‘The owner of the vehicle, identified as one Mr. Pele of Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, has been contacted, while the recovered vehicle has been secured as an exhibit. Investigation is ongoing to conclude the case and facilitate the prompt return of the vehicle to its lawful owner in accordance with due process,’’ DSP Timfon John stated in a press release of July 8.

    The Commissioner of Police, Akwa Ibom State Command, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, fsi, commended the operatives for their professionalism, vigilance, and commitment to duty. He reiterated the Command’s unwavering resolve to sustain intelligence-driven policing and ensure that criminal elements find no refuge within Akwa Ibom State.

    The Commissioner further urges members of the public to remain vigilant and continue to support the Police with timely, credible, and actionable information. He assures residents that all information received will be treated with the highest level of confidentiality and that the Command remains steadfast in its constitutional mandate to protect lives and property, prevent crime, and bring offenders to justice.
