Rev. Fr. Patrick Henry Edet, popular Uyo-based cleric and radio preacher, is a married man.
At a colourful ceremony attended by crème de la crème of the society, Edet tied the knot with his hearthrob, Inyene Sampson Akpan at Ibom Hall, Uyo, Akwa Ibom capital on Saturday, March 17.
Dr. Emmanuel Ekuwem, the State Secretary to Akwa Ibom Government, commissioners, clergymen and other notable figures in and outside the state graced the colourful ceremony.
The hall well-decorated with ceremonial trappings was a beautiful sight to behold while the premises witnessed exotic cars of different makes.
The traditional marriage was held Friday, March 16 in an intimate culture-exhibiting ceremony in Akwa Ibom.
Edet, who resigned his priesthood from Roman Catholic Church in Akwa Ibom on August 2, last year during his Grace Family, radio programme on Inspiration Radio, Uyo, is the founder of Grace Family programme featuring in various radio and television stations in the country.
News of the marriage proposal to the bride-to-be now a wife was first broken by the priest to members of Grace Family Church service last month in Uyo.
Former Miss Akpan is an indigene of Atai Ibiaku Itam in Itu local government area of the state and a French graduate of the University of Uyo.
Prior to the programme, then Fr. Edet had featured the lady on his Grace and Inspiration radio show on Planet FM on May 3rd last year where she gave insights on the programme.
Last year, the clergyman stated that the resignation marked the beginning of ‘freedom’ for his spirit and soul.”
Edet said “after 11 long years, he strongly felt the need to leave, because he was feeling boxed in and it was affecting his personal relationship with God.”
His words: “From today henceforth, I cease to be a Catholic Priest, in my spirit and in my soul.
”I forgive those who will criticize me, I live for God. I seek freedom for my soul. As I leave, I leave smiling I am so happy that I am free.”
