The murder of an indigene of Ogbeta village, Onitsha in cold blood last week in Enugu State by unknown assassins has attracted the ire of members of Anambra State House of Assembly.

Consequently, the House has called on Governors Willie Obiano and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Anambra and Enugu State respectively to direct the security agents in their respective states to swing into action and fish out the killers.

Speaking on a motion of public importance, Hon. Chugbo Enwezor representing Onitsha J Constituency said Chinedu Nzeagwu had come from Abuja for the father’s burial only to be killed by the assassins before the father’s burial.

Enwezor narrated that “The young man had left his family house at Trans-Ekulu, Enugu in his car to go and pick some items. On alighting from his car some unidentified gunmen grabbed him, tied his hands and legs and killed him with heavy planks.”

He said it was on the following day that his lifeless body was found before the Nike fly-over.

“I urge governor Willie Obiano and his Enugu counterpart to move into action to direct the security agents in their states t o carry out a proper investigation and ensure that the suspects were unmasked”.

Throwing his weight behind Enwezor, the member representing Anambra East Constituency, Hon. Obinna Emenaka equally called on the two governors to bring the suspects to book.

Importantly, Emenaka called on the National Assembly to declare a state of emergency in Nigeria, especially Anambra State for lack of security.

“I condemn the dastardly act and I call on the security agencies to braze up to their constitutional responsibilityduties because Nigerians are now living in fear.”
