Three female students of Obong University, Obong Ntak in Etim Ekpo local government area of state abducted by some unknown gunmen are yet to be rescued by the Akwa Ibom state Police Command.

An eye witness in the area confided in our reporter that the police who arrived at the scene late only rescued another female who was wounded by the gunshots she sustained and the hoodlums had to abandon the victim in the `university’s premises due to her frailty.

Police spokesperson in the state, Odiko MacDon, confirmed the rescued student has gunshot wound on her shoulder and has been taken to the hospital for treatment.

“Police is on the trail of the abductors,” Macdon a deputy superintendent of police, said.

“The incident occurred about 2 a.m. on Friday within the female hostel. The hoodlums were about eight in number and the university security men were not armed.

“And they came in from the bush as there is no perimeter fence around the school premises,” he said.

The students in the university embarked on a peaceful march within the campus in the morning to protest the abduction of their colleagues.

They were addressed by Prof. Udoudo Ekanemesang, the university’s Vice Chancellor, who appealed to them to remain calm while the incident was being investigated.

The 18-year-old university in Etim Ekpo is one of the two private universities in state located among the four local government areas mostly affected by cult-related killings and violence in the state.

Meanwhile, the suspected cultists have again turned their rage on Uruk Ata 11 in Etim Ekpo by setting more houses ablaze.

Four days ago, they torched some houses in the village, kidnapped four elders of two churches and killed four persons.

Today (Saturday), some policemen invited to contain the arson and arrest the cultists escaped through their skin.

However, an anonymous source confided in Straightnews that the unknown gunmen had set their patrol van ablaze.
