Abak Local Government Council in Akwa Ibom State, under the chairmanship of Mrs. Ime Effiong Charles, has raised performance stakes through its scorecard less than one year in the office.

Briefing executive members of Amalgamated Newspaper Publishers of Akwa Ibom State (ANPA) led by its President, OsuiniAbasi Alfred, the Chairman of Abak Local Government Area, Mrs. Charles welcomed the team to the area and sought objective assessment of her scorecard.

Mrs Charles further said the council is building an ultra modern 8th Abak Legislative Chamber, renovating a modern classroom block at Eka Midim Secondary School, Midim Clan in Abak LGA and renovating Abak main market with standard offices.

Other achievements include intervening in delivery of educational materials to some primary school pupils, timely evacuation of waste from Abak main market and other strategic places in the urban as well as modern furnishing of official offices of the 12 councillors in the area, provision of a solar-powered borehole facility at Abak main market, delivery of food items and cash to the less privileged to mark the Governor’s birth anniversary,

Others are engagement and payment of monthly stipends to over 85 women who keep the urban road clean, collaboration with the Nigeria police and other security outfit for surveillance and maintenance of peace in the area, furnishing of offices of the Paramount Ruler and the 12 Supervisory Councillors as well as payment of monthly stipends to more than 500 youths of Abak to cushion the effects of unemployment.

Earlier, the ANPA President, Mr. Alfred, had congratulated the Chairman on her emergence as the Chairman, saying that publishers of local newspapers in the state visited the area to assess and report her performance so far in their newspapers.
