Folorunso Alakija, Nigeria’s wealthiest woman, has allegedly lost her sight, Sahara Reporters broke the news.

The 73-year-old businesswoman began experiencing health problems after a near-air mishap while she was traveling with her husband, Modupe Alakija, who is the Chairman of Famfa Oil.

The incident reportedly caused a severe spike in her blood pressure, which adversely affected her vision.

Responding to the incident, Alakija who is thefounder of Famfa Oil, took the step of ordering a new jet to avoid sharing flights with her husband.

Despite this precaution, her vision worsened over time until she lost it entirely. A source close to her care stated, “She had a near air mishap with her husband on board and her blood pressure reportedly shot up affecting her eyes.

She has been having eyesight issues but instead of treating the illness, she chose to start a church to help her. Now she can’t see.”

Folorunso Alakija is not only a prominent businesswoman but also a philanthropist who founded the Rose of Sharon Glorious Ministry International. She was ordained as an Apostle on her 69th birthday.

Her company, Famfa Oil holds a significant stake in OML 127, a highly profitable oil block located on the Agbami Deepwater oilfield in Nigeria.

Forbes estimated her net worth at $1 billion in 2020. In 2015, Forbes ranked her as the 87th most powerful woman in the world, and she was one of only two African women listed among Forbes’ richest people in Africa.
