The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested five suspects and recovered various items suspected to be illicit drugs in an early morning operation in intensified efforts against criminal activities in Eket Local Government Area.

The raid, carried out at about 4:00 a.m. on February 9, 2026, followed a directive by the Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, fsi, to sustain pressure on criminal hideouts and identified black spots across the state.

A press release by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John for the Commissioner of Police, said ‘‘Police operatives stormed an identified crime hub in Eket, where three males and two females were apprehended.

‘‘Items recovered during the operation include dried leaves suspected to be Colorado (commonly known as “Colos”), substances believed to be intoxicants, assorted Tramadol and Codeine tablets, Methamphetamine also known as “Ice,” an unidentified black powder, an Automated Teller Machine (ATM) card, the sum of ₦15,800 in cash, as well as several pictures and documents.’’

The suspects, according to the Police, are currently undergoing thorough investigation to determine the extent of their involvement and possible links to other criminal activities. One of the suspects, Alfa Bamese, reportedly claimed that some of the recovered pictures were meant for an assignment, a claim the Police said is being verified.

The Akwa Ibom State Police Command reaffirms its resolve to rid the state of criminal elements and urged members of the public to continue to support law enforcement agencies with timely and credible information.
