    Africon 2019: Super Eagles Draw Against Guinea, Madagascar, Burundi

    Super Eagles have been handed easy opponents in African Cup of Nations mundial billed for Egypt in June 2019.

    Gernot Rohr’s men have have been drawn to face Guinea, Madagascar and Burundi in Group B of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations

    The draw ceremony took place behind the famous Giza Pyramids, Cairo. The event was greeted with great fanfare that showcased the culture of the country. It was a spectacular treat that left mouths wide open including the crème de la crème of world football.

    Anthony Baffoe was in charge of the draw and was assisted by African football greats Ahmed Hassan, Yaya Toure and El Hadji Diouf.

    During the draw, Gernot Rohr’s men were the luckiest as they were zoned against debutants- Burundi and Madagascar alongside Guinea, who are making their 12th appearance.

    Group D promises to be a blockbuster affair, with Morocco drawn against Cote d’Ivoire, South Africa and Namibia.

    Tanzania’s Taifa Stars were landed in a veritable ‘Group of Death’ where they will be facing Senegal’ Algeria and Kenya in Group C.

    Defending champions Cameroon were handed a tricky pool in the draw, having been bracketed with Ghana, Benin Republic and Guinea-Bissau in Group F.

    Srđan Vasiljević’s Angola side face a difficult proposition to qualify, with Tunisia, Mali and Mauritania alongside them in Group E.

    Elsewhere, hosts Egypt, who featured at the 2018 World Cup in Russia featured in an intriguing pool A alongside DR Congo, Uganda and Zimbabwe.

    The Super Eagles will begin their campaign against Burundi on June 22 in Alexandria before facing Guinea (June 26) and Madagascar (June 30) respectively at the same venue.

    The six venues for AFCON 2019 are: Cairo International Stadium; Borg El-Arab Stadium, Alexandria; Suez Stadium; Air Defence Stadium; Ismailia Stadium and Al Salam Stadium.
