The 63-year-old’s contract with the Nigeria Football Federation ended on Thursday, February 28, 2024, and there have been reports that NFF was negotiating a new contract with the former Venezuela manager, but he opted to quit.

Straightnews gathered that NFF had charged Peseiro to guide Eagles to semi-final before he would be appointed a coach, Peseiro turned a beautiful bride to Algeria for the superlative performance of Super Eagles in 2023 AFCON soccer Fiesta in Ivory Coast.

Peseiro while speaking in an interview with El Hayat TV, confirmed that he has received an offer from the North African nation. However, he has decided to leave the talks to his agent.

“I received a lot of offers after the African Cup final. I received an offer from the FAF but I will first rest and my agent will take care of it.”

The Portuguese coach confirmed his exit in a post on his X( formerly Twitter) account @JosePeseiro on Friday, March 1, 2024, said it was an honour to coach the Super Eagles and thanked the former NFF president for hiring him.

According to SoccernetNg, Eguavoen, a 58-year-old former Super Eagles coach will lead the three-time African champions on a temporary contract till the Nigeria Football Federation appoints a permanent new for the team.

Eguavoen was also appointed Super Eagles interim manager for the 2021 AFCON in Cameroon following Gernot Rohr’s departure and managed to guide Nigeria to the Round of 16 before being knocked out by Tunisia.

The former Nigeria defender was the team’s technical director when Nigeria won a silver medal at the 2023 AFCON in Ivory Coast.
