An Akwa Ibom-born boy from a private secondary school has emerged third in the recent Young Nigerian Scientists Presidential Award, 2019.

He is Master Joshua John Mark, a student of Nigerian Christian Institute (NCI), Uyo, the state capital.

The Oruk Anam-born who contested with 774 students from the 36 states of the federation won prizes, laptop computer, #500,000 cash and a scholarship to study up to Ph.D level in the university.

Receiving the award winner in his office, Dr Iniobong Essien, the state Commissioner for Science and Technology, restated the government’s commitment to the promotion of science and technology in Akwa Ibom.

Dr Essien, while presenting a laptop computer to Joshua, congratulated him for doing Akwa Ibom proud by excelling in the science competition

Essien, who was represented by his Permanent secretary, Nicholas Idungafa, an engineer, said the administration of Governor Udom Emmanuel gives priority to science and technology in the state.

The Commissioner urged the student to remain focused and access the scholarship offers from the Federal Ministry of Science and Technology which guaranteed his education up to the Ph.D level.

To access the scholarship, he advised him to gain admission to a University of his choice, graduate with a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of at least 3.0 to secure admission into a Master’s degree programme and a CGPA of 4.0 in his Master’s to be readily admitted into a Ph.D programme.

He said the laptop computer from the federal ministry, was an additional prize to the #500,000, already given to him from the Presidency.
