To boost the socio-economic activities of Akwa Ibom and beyond, the state government is said to have commenced the construction of the long-neglected Atabong Road in Okobo local government area.
The road which has become a campaign stunt by some past administrations leads to the popular beach market where crayfish and other seafood products are sold and transported to various parts of the country.
Akan Okon, the Commissioner for Economic Development told executive members of Okobo Women Association, Uyo led by their president, Mrs. Eme Atakpo who were in the ministry to congratulate their son, the permanent Secretary, Mr. Effiong Ekpenyong on his appointment.
Okon further announced that construction work on the much-politicised Ibom Deep Seaport in Ibaka, Mbo local government area would soon commence in earnest.
He reiterated the government’s determination to ensure that every local government area enjoys the dividends of democracy in its second term, restating its commitment to execute projects that would turn around the economic fortunes of the people.
The Commissioner used the occasion to extol the spirit of love, joy and unity shown by the women to their son, a gesture he observed would attract more blessings to the area.
Okon described Ekpenyong as a humble, hard working and focused individual whom he is proud to work with, and urged the women to continue to pray for the success of the administration.
The Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Mr. Ekpenyong thanked Okobo women for their show of solidarity in his elevation, and promised to make Okobo proud to justify their confidence in him.
Earlier, Mrs. Atakpo, the president of Okobo Women Association, Uyo branch, had said they were in the Ministry to formally felicitate their son, Mr. Ekpenyong on his appointment as Permanent Secretary, a position that has eluded Okobo for more than15 years.
She, therefore, thanked Governor Udom Emmanuel for becoming an instrument of blessing to Okobo, considering the elevation of yet another great son, Barr. Ekpenyong Ntekim, and the construction of Atabong Road.
The president prayed for more of such dividends that would impact on the life of the common man in the area and the state in general.
