Akwa Ibom State Government has reiterated its resolve to continue to empower the less privileged and downtrodden in rural communities in the state, through life touching micro projects.
This was disclosed yesterday in Uyo during a One-Day Capacity and Partnership Building Workshop for Stakeholders of Community and Social Development Project in Local Government and State Sectoral MDAs.
Speaking during the occasion, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Economic Development, Labour and Manpower Planning, Dr. Otuekong Ukut stated that the present administration under the leadership of Governor Udom Emmanuel is focused on alleviating poverty as well as creating job opportunity for rural dwellers.
He stressed the need for benefiting communities to complete their on-going projects in order for more projects to be carried out.
“Permit me to use this opportunity to thank His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Mr Udom Emmanuel for the solid support and emphasis played by the present administration in the state on poverty reduction, inclusive development and above all, touching the lives of the vulnerable and less privileged at the grassroots.
“Community and Social Development Project aims at providing the basic facilities that will transform the condition of life of all in the rural areas and give voice to the poor, downtrodden and marginalized.
“At the end of the workshop, it is expected that a robust relationship would have been established between the State Agency, State Ministries, Department and Agencies and the Local Government for a realistic and sustainable projects implementation”. He said
Earlier, the General Manager, Akwa Ibom State Agency for Community and Social Development Project(AK-CSDP), Mr Ishmael Akpan hinted that so far, the agency has facilitated implementation in 89 communities in the state.
Mr Akpan who added that 232 micro projects has been completed and presently delivering services to the people in rural areas within the three Senatorial Districts of Akwa Ibom State, noted that 21 are on-going and in their various stages of implementation.
He further appreciated the state Governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel for his support to the less privileged at the grassroots.
“I wish to add that the projects development objective of CSDP falls within the policy goals and objective of the present administration in Akwa Ibom State, namely: job creation, poverty alleviation, wealth creation, political and economic inclusion and infrastructural consolidation and expansion.
“The Executive Governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel has graciously fulfilled all the requirements by the World Bank which enabled the state to come onboard the on-going Community and Social Development Project Additional Financing. We also commend World Bank for consistently supporting the state in her development strides”. He added
