The Akwa Ibom Government has announced plans to resuscitate ailing and abandoned water projects in the state.

The Special Adviser on Bureau of Political/Legislative Affairs and Water Resources, Pastor Sunny Ibuot stated this Wednesday when members of Borehole Drillers Association of Nigeria (BODAN), Akwa Ibom State Chapter, in Uyo paid him a courtesy visit.

He hinted that the government has awarded contracts to indigenous contractors through Akwa Ibom State Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency (AK-RUWATSAN) to provide water using solar energy, resuscitate broken facilities and establish new water project.

Ibuot said that the State Government wants to formulate water policy documents to regulate water drilling and other water operations.

This, according to him, would reduce multiple drilling and attendant effects on the society, urging them to give inputs to the document.

The Special Adviser thanked Governor Emmanuel for providing counterpart funding for the provision of water projects in the state.

He appealed to BODAN to galvanize support from their members to support the re-election of Governor Udom Emmanuel.

Earlier, Dr. Mfon Offiong, the Chairman Borehole Drillers Association of Nigerian, Akwa Ibom State Chapter, had pledged as their contribution to national development to partner government and relevant stakeholders to give boreholes throughout the country a facelift.

He promised to work together with government create synergy to tackle some issues affecting the provision of portable water and appealed to government to revamp water facilities in the State.

The Director of Administration in the Bureau, Mr. Sam Umiom, thanked BODAN for the visit, and expressed the hope that government look into the issues raised in order to provide portable water in the state.
