The five members of Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly whose seats were declared vacant on Monday, November 19 by Onofiok Luke for defecting from Peoples Democratic Party to All Progressives Congress, APC have gained entry into the house for business session.
The five members are Nse Ntuen, Essien Udim; Idongesit Ituen, Itu; Otobong Ndem, Mkpat Enin; Victor Udofia, Ikono and Gabriel Toby, Etim Ekpo/Ika.
Led by Mr. Nse Ntuen, the members are currently holding proceedings on the floor of the Assembly after they had gained access to the complex.
Report culled from Radar said the five members have reportedly “suspended” their 21 colleagues and have “removed” Onofiok Luke, the Speaker of the house.
The report further stated that they are commencing impeachment proceedings against the Governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel.
An eyewitness account said the five members have the mace with them which is displayed on the floor of the assembly.
The state governor, Udom Emmanuel has arrived at the complex with the Speaker, Onofiok Luke.
The state commissioner for works, Mr Ephraim Inyang-eyen, who had earlier arrived at the complex was said to have been denied access.
The atmosphere at the assembly is tense as the staffers of the assembly have all vacated the premises.
There is a presence of heavily armed policemen.
The security operatives who laid siege on the state assembly vacated on Wednesday, November 21 after the Nigerian Senate had passed a resolution ordering them to do so or face six months jail.
