In its determined to decimate cultism and other crimes in the State, the Akwa Ibom State Police Command has dismissed a police constable for alleged involvement in secret cultism.
The Akwa Ibom government had banned 65 secret cultist groups in the state.
The dismissed policeman, Mfoniso Esio with F/NO. 513379 PC, was fingered in the initiation of one Ubong John William into a Junior Vikings Confraternity on May 20, 2020.
A press release by CSP N-Nudam K. Fredrick, the state Police Public Relations Officer, said the victim was allegedly abducted to a bush along Marina Road, Eket where he was forcefully initiated into the Junior Vikings Confraternity.
According to the release, “The Constable has been subjected to orderly room trial where he was found guilty of the offence and has been dismissed immediately from the Force. This will serve as a deterrent to others of his like in the Force.”
Meanwhile, the Command has fished out 12 suspected notorious cultists from different locations in the State.
It stated that 10 locally made pistols, 400 live cartridges, 10 expended cartridges, 15 machetes, five axes, wraps of substance suspected to be cocaine and items suspected to be charms were recovered from them.
The Akwa Ibom Commissioner of Police, Imohimi Edgal has, therefore, warned that any persons, no matter how highly placed involved in cultism or other crimes will be promptly arrested and prosecuted accordingly.
