As the 2019 general elections approach, Akwa Ibom Special Adviser has called on law enforcement agents in the country stay away from corrupt practices capable of denting their image.

Pastor Sunny Ibuot, Special Adviser, Bureau of Political/Legislative Affairs and Water Resources in the state made the call during a sensitization programme organised by Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) in conjunction with Youth Alive Foundation, on the theme ‘National Campaign Against Vote Buying and Other Electoral Malpractices,’ on Thursday in Uyo.

The Special Adviser called on the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) and other relevant agencies to be in the vanguards against electoral malpractices, harping on the need for an improved electoral system during the 2019 general elections.

Ibuot who advocated for free, fair and credible elections in 2019 however lauded Governor Udom Emmanuel for maintaining peace in the state.

In a keynote address, Mr. Kingsley Obi a representative of ICPC described vote buying as an act of corruption which attracts a penalty, restating their resolve to partner INEC in combating the ugly trend and also in monitoring the forthcoming elections to ensure the neutrality of the process.

Musa Kimo, Akwa Ibom Commissioner of Police, who was represented by Mr. Gabriel Akoh, Assistant Commissioner of Police, in a goodwill message, lauded ICPC for mounting the workshop, noting that with the collective inputs of the stakeholders, credible elections in 2019 will be achieved.
