The sudden demise of the acting Director of Finance and Administration, Interim Management Committee of Niger Delta Development Commission, Ibanga Etang, has elicited condolences from various personalities.
The latest came from Senator Godswill Akpabio, the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, who wrote “I lost a brother and a friend a few days back. A fellow Change Agent.”
This is as the NDDC in a statement signed by Charles Odili, the commission’s spokesperson, on Friday officially announced the demise of its acting director said to have died on Thursday in Port Harcourt, Rivers State capital.
Akpabio in his Twitter handle on Saturday described the deceased thus, “A fighter for the actual development of the Niger Delta. A brother, A technocrat and a true ally in the fight against corruption. May heavens accept your soul Mr Ibanga Bassey Etang. #GOA.”
Meanwhile, Udom Emmanuel, the Akwa Ibom governor, said the government and people of the state would require answers to certain questions on the death of Ibanga Etang, the acting director of finance in the NDDC.
“There will be a time we’ll start asking questions. I am just waiting,” Mr Emmanuel said on Friday during the inauguration of a 300-bed isolation centre built in Uruan, Akwa Ibom State, by his administration.
“They rushed to the social media and published even the internal memo that they have shut down the (NDDC) office for two weeks, and that he died of COVID-19.”
“I know I am not supposed to say this, but I am the governor of the state and every life of my citizen is important to me,” he said before he started talking about the passing of Mr Etang.
