Angered by alleged child abuse, Akwa Ibom State Government has ordered investigation into the case in Deeper Life High School, Uyo.
A trending online video showed a woman identified as Deborah Okezie, ranting bitterly about the physical changes of her child who now looks emaciated, after returning from Deeper Life High School, Uyo, Akwa Ibom state.
In the video, the woman compared a picture of her son before and after he went to the boarding house, stating that the child now looks malnourished.
Okezie’s son who recounted some of the abuses he was subjected to, alleged that he was forced to starve for days, beaten for bedwetting, and also sent to a hostel for senior students where he was also dealt with.
A press release issued on Sunday by Comrade Iniobong Ememobong, the state Commissioner for Information and Strategy, says “The state has noted with great concern, the complaints by a parent whose child is a student of Deeper Life College, Uyo.
“The complaints gleaned from social and traditional media, relate to the maltreatment and abuse of their child, which occurred at the said school.
“Consequently, the Governor of Akwa Ibom state, Mr. Udom Emmanuel has directed the Honourable Commissioner for Education to immediately investigate these complaints and take necessary action.
“The State Government is committed to the protection of children wherever they may be within its jurisdiction.”
