    Akwa Ibom House of Assembly inaugurates 26 standing committees

    The Speaker of Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Mr. Udeme Otong, Friday, inaugurated 26 Standing Committees with Chairmen and members for the successful running of the 8th Assembly.

    Below are the 26 Committees inaugurated and their Chairmen as follows:

    *Advisory Committee on Parliamentary Matters /Rt. Hon. Udeme Otong- (Abak/Speaker).

    *Committee on Public Accounts – Hon. Eric Akpan (Nsit Ibom).

    *Committee on Inter-governmental, Political & Special Matters/ Hon. Emem Udom, (Ukanafun).

    *Committee on Petroleum – Hon. Udobia Friday (Esit Eket/Ibeno).

    * Committee on Rural Development & Public Utilities/Rt. Hon. Asuquo Udo Nana (Ikono).

    *Committee on Local Government Affairs & Chieftaincy – Rt. Hon. Mfon Idung (Etim Ekpo/Ika).

    *Committee on Appropriations & Finance – Hon. (Dr.) Itoro Etim (Uruan).

    *Committee on Security, Youth and Sports – Hon. Uwemedimo Asuquo (Uyo).

    *Committee on NDDC – Rt. Hon. Kufre Edidem (Itu/Deputy Speaker)

    *Committee on Labour and Productivity – Hon. Sunday Johnny (ONNA/House Leader)

    *Committee on Agriculture and Natural Resources – Hon. Ubong Attah (Ibesikpo Asutan).

    *Committee on Information – Hon. Jerry Otu (Ikot Ekpene/Obot Akara).

    *Committee on Health- Hon. Moses Essien (Ibiono Ibom).

    *Committee on Education – Hon. Kenim Onofiok (Oron/Udung Uko).

    *Committee on Women Affairs & Social Welfare – Hon. Selinah Ukpatu (Ikot Abasi/Eastern Obolo).

    *Committee on Lands, Housing & Urban Renewal- Hon. Sampson Idiong (Oruk Anam/Deputy Chief Whip).

    *Committee on Science & Technology – Hon. Uduak Ekpo-ufot (Etinan)

    *Committee on Works & Transport – Rt. Hon. Otobong Bob (Nsit Ubium/Deputy House Leader).

    *Committee on Economic Planning & Development – Hon. Nsidibe Akata (Eket).

    *Committee on Business, Rules & Ethics – Hon. Ukpong Akpabio (Essien Udim).

    *Committee on Environment – Hon. Bassey Pius Bassey (Okobo).

    *Committee on House Services – Hon. Lawrence Udoide (Ini).

    *Committee on Commerce & Tourism – Rt. Hon. Effiong Johnson (Mbo/ Chief Whip).

    *Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights & Public Petitions – Prince Aniefiok Attah (Nsit Atai)

    *Committee on Special Duties, Project Monitoring & Implementation – Hon. Uwem Imoh-ita (Mkpat Enin).

    *Committee on Boundary Matters – Hon. Precious Selong (Urue-Offong/ Oruko)

    The Committees are to commence their activities immediately.

    During Plenary too, the House resolved and directed the Clerk of the Assembly to send a congratulatory message to Chef Hilda Bassey, a daughter of Nsit Ubium Local Government Area who was recently certified by the Guinness World Record (GWR) for a cooking marathon of 93 hours, 11 minutes as well as creating 55 recipes and cooking over 100 types of meals with Akwa Ibom delicacies conspicuously captured.

    The motion was moved by Rt Hon Otobong Bob, member representing Nsit Ubium State Constituency.

    Also, “A Bill for a Law to provide easy access to higher education for Akwa Ibom students through interest free loan from the State education bank established in this law with a view to provide education for all Akwa Ibom students and for related matters,” House of Assembly Bill (HAB) 297, was read for the first time.

    This Bill is sponsored by Rt Hon Otobong Bob, member representing Nsit Ubium State Constituency was committed to the House Committee on Rules, Business and Ethics for rescheduling.

    Meanwhile, the House has adjourned Plenary to resume sitting on July 11, 2023 by 10 a.m. prompt.
