Abak Local Government Area in Akwa Ibom State, Tuesday, disbursed N27.6 million as business support grants to 138 indigenes drawn from 98 villages in Midim, Otoro, and Ediene Clans of the area.
The number represents the first tranche of beneficiaries who received the support during a ceremony to underscore the council’s commitment to empowering the rural dwellers, while the second tranche of 138 would get theirs next month.
The Chairman of Abak Local Government Area, Hon. (Mrs.) Ime Effiong Charles, who presented the grants to the beneficiaries, noted that the empowerment programme is one of the many people-focused initiatives under her BEST Agenda, aimed at boosting small businesses, strengthening rural economies, and enhancing financial stability for families across the local government area.
Mrs Charles, who explained that each of the beneficiaries got N200,000 cash. advised the beneficiaries to make good use of the grants to improve their businesses.

The Managing Director/CEO of Akwa Ibom Investment and Property Company Limited (APICO), Mr. Patrick Udomfang, commended the Chairman for her exceptional commitment to grassroots economic development.
Udomfang who in the goodwill message was represented described the gesture as a bold and visionary investment in human capital development.
The Paramount Ruler of Abak, Akuku Sylvester Udofia, JP, who is also who is also the Chairman of Supreme Council of Traditional Rulers, expressed delight over the gesture, noting that the Council’s boss has consistently demonstrated leadership that prioritises the welfare of her people.
The former Deputy Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Hon. Uwem Udoma, represented by Hon. Ekopimo Ezekiel, saw the empowerment programme as a true reflection of the dividends of electing a people-oriented leader.
Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mr. Christopher John Obo for the Midim Clan, Mrs. Grace Udofia for Otoro Clan, and Princess Itoro Umanah spoke for the Ediene Clan.

They all expressed profound gratitude to the Chairman for the life-changing support, and assured her that the funds would be put to meaningful use.
The ceremony was attended by local government officials, former chairmen, traditional rulers, women groups, youth organizations, and other stakeholders.
