Senator Godswill Akpabio is said to be leading in the election to represent Akwa Ibom North West Senatorial District in the 10th National Assembly.
Akpabio who contested under All Progressives Congress (APC) is reportedly leading in most of the 10 local government areas of the senatorial district.
The former Akwa Ibom governor who was challenged by Mr. Emmanuel Enoidem of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Ekon of Young Progressives Party (YPP) lost to Obong Christopher Ekpenyong of PDP during the 2019 election.
Though the Vice Chairman of APC Campaign Council walked a tight rope during his primary election with Mr. Udom Ekpoudom, a retired Deputy Inspector General of Police, he was eventually declared the validly elected Senatorial candidate of the district by the Supreme Court.
Straightnews reporter in the area who monitored the election said during counting of ballot papers in most polling units, the immediate past Minister of Niger Delta Affairs was said to be leading other contestants in most polling units.
