    Akwa Ibom PDP Reconstitutes 39-Member EXCO

    A 39-member State Executive Committee has been reconstituted for Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Akwa Ibom State chapter. 

    At the election that drew delegates from the 31 local government areas in the state, Elder Aniekan Simon Αkpan was elected as Chairman.

    Akpan, a one-time member of Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly and the state Commissioner for Education, was sworn in July 2021 to complete the tenure of the late Obong Udo Ekpenyong.

    Ekpenyong from Ikot Okusung in Ukanafun Local Government Area of the state died in active service and was replaced by Aniekan Akpan, his kinsman.

    Harrison Ekpo, the immediate past Secretary of the party, was elected as Deputy Chairman.

    Other elected officers include Ibanga Brownson, Secretary, and Augustine Akpan, Inemesit Itina, Barr Ekpong Edemumoh as Vice Chairmen I, II, and III.
    Also in the new Exco are: Mmeme Akpabio, Effiong Emah, Emmanuel Mbong, Edwin Ebiese, Barr Ekemini Uba, Andy Ekitok, Inibehe Silas, and Ubong Effiong as Treasurer, Financial Secretary, Organising Secretary, Publicity Secretary, Legal Adviser, Auditor, Woman leader and Youth leader respectively, among others.
    Before the election, Aniekan Akpan had called for a dissolution of the state EXCO. The State Deputy Governor, Senator Akon Eyakanyi moved for dissolution of the EXCO and the Speaker of Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Elder Udeme Otong seconded the motion.
    Speaking, Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno tasked the newly-elected State Executive of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to aim at conquering new territories and expanding the umbrella to accommodate more people through their people- centric service.
    The Governor gave the charge while addressing the State Party Congress, where new executive of the party were elected, at Uyo Township Stadium.
    He congratulated the reelected chairman, Elder Aniekan Akpan and his executive for their successful election and urged them to surpass the strides of the erstwhile executive.
    Governor Eno who is the leader of the party in the State assured that he will continue to lead the State with integrity and honesty, adding that his administration will remain responsive and responsible, while continuing to galvanize the youths as well as other Akwa Ibomites to arise.
    He lauded the hard work and diligent service of the immediate past party Exco for leading the party to victory in various elections during their tenure.
    Eno particularly thanked the immediate past Governor, Mr Udom Emmanuel, for providing the needed leadership that led to his emergence as Governor.
    Governor Eno also appreciated his predecessor for taking part in the congress; representative from the National Secretariat, and the Congress Organising Committee, led by Engr  Uwem Stephen Okoko , for what he described as a well organised congress.
    While noting that the exercise marked a new dawn for the party, he called on all party faithful to give the new Exco the necessary support to succeed in the tasks ahead especially, the October 5, local government election.
    In his remark, the immediate past Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel appreciated the party leadership for successfully driving the party to success and supporting Pastor Umo Eno to victory in the 2023 elections.
    He pledged his continuous support where necessary, to enable the new leadership succeed on their mandate.
    In his acceptance speech, the newly elected Chairman, Elder Aniekan Akpan assured that the Exco would work together to maintain the winning history of the party and more importantly, to ensure the re-election of Governor Umo Eno in 2027.
    The State EXCO has a lifespan of four years.
