During a midnight raid, Akwa Ibom Police Command arrested a robbery suspect and recovered his weapons and charms in Midim Clan, Abak Local Government Area of the state.
This was another major breakthrough in the command’s ongoing crackdown on robbery and violent crimes across the state.
According to a press release issued on Wednesday, May 13 by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John, operatives of the command acted on credible intelligence received during a routine patrol operation at about 3:00 a.m.
The intelligence reportedly exposed the activities of a notorious gang known for attacking and robbing unsuspecting motorcycle operators at gunpoint in Midim Clan and surrounding communities.

Acting swiftly on the tip-off, the police stormed the gang’s hideout in a coordinated operation. On sighting the operatives, the suspects reportedly attempted to flee into nearby bushes.
However, one of the suspects, identified as Uduak Vincent, 28, a native of Ikot Ifang Village in Midim Clan, was apprehended after a hot chase by the operatives.
Items recovered from the suspect included a locally made pistol, a small axe, a knife, charms suspected to be used for criminal fortification, six wraps of substances suspected to be Indian hemp, two button phones, three bottles of ICE, three rings, one Airtel SIM card, and a multi-coloured handbag.
The command stated that two other members of the gang escaped during the operation, adding that efforts were ongoing to track down and arrest the fleeing suspects.
The Commissioner of Police in Akwa Ibom State, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to flushing out criminal elements from the state.
The police boss warned violent offenders to desist from criminal activities or be prepared to face decisive action from security agencies.
He, therefore, appealed to residents to continue supporting the police with timely and credible information, assuring that all reports would be treated with strict confidentiality.
Police Burst Suspected Criminal hideout in Obot Akara
In another development, the Akwa Ibom State Police Command has raided suspected criminal hideout and recovered firearms.
By this, the police demonstrated its unwavering resolve to dismantle criminal networks operating within the State, following the arrest of a suspected criminal and the recovery of firearms in Obot Akara Local Government Area.
On 11th May, 2026, at about 0930hrs, operatives of the Command received actionable intelligence indicating that one Aniefiok Otong Mbana ‘M’ of Ikot Ukam Village, Obot Akara LGA, was in possession of a suspicious motorcycle reasonably suspected to have been stolen.
In a press release signed by DSP Timfon John, the command’s Police Public Relations Officer for the state Commissioner of Police on May 11, said ‘‘Acting swiftly on the intelligence, Detectives were immediately deployed to the area where the suspect was tactically apprehended in possession of the motorcycle.
‘‘During interrogation, the suspect failed to give a satisfactory account of ownership of the motorcycle and instead attempted to link it to one “Mr. White,” who is currently at large.
‘‘A subsequent search conducted at the suspect’s premises led to the recovery of one locally made pistol, one Dane gun, four empty cartridges, and one live cartridge, further reinforcing suspicions of criminal involvement and exposing the dangerous nature of the suspect and his associates.’’
The Command has since launched an intensive manhunt for the fleeing accomplice and other suspected members of the criminal network.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Mohammed Azare, fsi, has issued a stern warning to criminals, cultists, armed robbers, gun runners, and receivers of stolen property to immediately desist from criminal activities or face the full weight of the law.
Azare stressed that Akwa Ibom State will no longer serve as a safe haven for criminal elements, as the Command has intensified intelligence-driven policing, surveillance operations, raids, stop-and-search duties, and tactical deployments across the State.
The Commissioner of Police further warned that anyone found aiding, harbouring, or collaborating with criminals will be treated as an accomplice and prosecuted accordingly.
He reassured law-abiding residents of the Command’s unwavering commitment to the protection of lives and property and urged members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies.
