Akwa Ibom Police arrested two suspects from Mkpat Enin Local Government Area of the state and seized their automatic pump action rifle and locally fabricated shot gun.

This was another major operational success by the police in their sustained crackdown on violent crimes and criminal elements across the state.

According to the police command, ‘‘On 18th February 2026 at about 1300hrs, operatives of the Command acting on credible intelligence carried out a targeted raid on the hideout of a notorious armed robbery suspect, one Abasiama Ekot, a.k.a. “Dombary,” of Ikot Ekop, Mkpat Enin Local Government Area.

‘‘The suspect had earlier been linked to acts of armed robbery and was recently seen in a social media video allegedly inciting violence and terrorizing residents within Mkpat Enin and its environs.

‘‘Upon sighting the operatives, the principal suspect reportedly fled the scene before the team’s arrival. However, two suspects found within the premises were arrested after a brief chase.’’

A press release by the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Timfon John, for the Commissioner of Police, said ‘‘Exhibits recovered from the hideout include: one automatic pump action rifle, one locally made fabricated shotgun, four machetes, substances suspected to be Indian hemp, “ice,” cocaine and one generator.

‘‘The suspects arrested at the premises are: Happiness Essien, male, 19 years and  Mathew Akpan, male, 31 years.

‘‘The arrested suspects have provided useful information, and investigations are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing principal suspect and dismantle any criminal network connected to him.’’

The Commissioner of Police assures residents of Mkpat Enin and the entire state that the Command will not relent in its commitment to intelligence-driven operations aimed at safeguarding lives and property. Members of the public are urged to remain vigilant and continue to support the Police with credible and timely information.
