Akwa Ibom Police have smashed a five-man robbery gang suspected to have terrorised customary court and a politician from Ndiya, Nsit Ibom Local Government Area of the state.

Addressing journalists Friday, at the state Police Headquarters, Ikot Akpan Abia in Akwa Ibom State, CP Amiengheme Andrew said “Following a tip-off on 2/10/2020 at about 2:30 a.m, SARS operatives arrested a 5-man notorious armed robbery gang. During investigation, suspects confessed to the crime, especially their robbery operation at customary court and Hon. Abraham Nyong from Ndiya.”

Meanwhile, Andrew said “On 23rd August, 2020, following a distress call, operatives of Eket Division apprehended four (4) cultists, namely: Abraham Bright Wilson ‘m’ – 19yrs, Sampson Emmanuel Udo ‘m’ – 31yrs, Sunny Okon Sunday ‘m’ – 27yrs and Prince Lawrence Okon ‘m’ – 32yrs.

“Suspects were allegedly firing gun in the air sporadically during a burial ceremony at Edebuk village, Eket Local Government Area. During investigation, suspects confessed being members of Supreme Vikings Confraternity. Exhibits recovered from the suspects were one locally made pistol, one live cartridge and one expended cartridge.”

He noted that “The Command remains determined to sustain the tempo in crime fighting and protection of lives and property.

“Let me once more use this medium to thank the government and good people of Akwa Ibom State for their support to the Nigeria Police and other security agencies towards reducing crime to the barest minimum and making Akwa Ibom State one of the safest states in the country.”
