    Akwa Ibom son, Prince Ene Baba Owoh, Jr.  has been appointed the Africa Regional Coordinator of the International Council for Local Environmental Initiative (ICLEI) worldwide with headquarters in Canada.

    Owoh is the National Coordinator of Clean-Up Nigeria (CUN), an International NGO with social and economic consultative status with the United Nations.

    His appointment takes effect from January 2022 of the world body with its regional office in Nairobi, Kenya.

    Born July 2, 1966 in Kaduna State, Nigeria, Owoh hails from Ikono Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.

    He is an environmental and telecommunications activist  and a   specialised   funds raiser  with international donor agencies and multilateral organisations globally  in  support  of developmental projects/programmes of governments at all levels and NGOs  in Nigeria.

    Prince Owoh founded the Clean-up Nigeria (CUN) and Telecom subscribers Rights Agenda (now Telsrad Projects) – a delegate member of the Africa Telecommunications Union- in 1994 and 2002 respectively.

    Married with children, Owoh is also the Country’s Coordinator of five international projects/programme in Nigeria, and the West Africa regional coordinator of the large marine ecosystem for the Gulf of Guinea.

    He is widely travelled and has addressed the United Nations General Assembly (civil society section) twice and delivered over 151 talks/papers worldwide. Prince Owoh was awarded the United Nations Environment Programme UNEP GLOBAL 500 AWARD in 1997 and also decorated with an honoral Belgium citizenship in 2005, by the King of Belgium.

    ICLEI is a global alliance network of over 2500 worldwide LGAs, founded in 1990 by Nancy Skinner to provide technical consulting to local government areas to meet sustainability objectives.

    The International Council for Local Environmental initiatives is a Global Network alliance of over 2500 worldwide LGA’s, founded in 1990 by Nancy Skinner to provide technical consulting to local government areas to meet sustainability objectives.

    ln 2003, ICLEI local governments voted to revise the organization’s  mission, charter and name to better reflect the current challenges that  local governments face and broaden topic of sustainability.

    Its mission is to build and serve a worldwide movement of local governments  to achieve tangible improvements in global sustainability with focus on environmental conditions  through cumulative local actions.
