A village Head from Abak Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State is in police net over attempted murder of a woman.
Chief Friday Jonah Umoren, the village head of Ibagwa, who allegedly shot one, Unwana Effiong Friday Inyang, 32 years, in the head with a gun, is cooling his feet in the Akwa Ibom Police Command’s cell.
A press release dated September 9 and signed by DSP Timfon John, the Police Public Relations Officer, Akwa Ibom State, said ‘‘On September 6, 2025, at approximately 2:30PM, operatives of the Command received a report of an attempted murder.

‘‘According to the report filed by a man (name withheld) that his brother, Chief Friday Jonah Umoren, the village head of Ibagwa, allegedly shot their sister, Unwana Effiong Friday Inyang, 32 yrs, in the head with a gun.’’
John stated ‘‘The victim was immediately taken to a Hospital, where she is currently receiving treatment and is reported to be in stable condition.
‘‘Police responded to the scene, and the suspect, Chief Friday Jonah Umoren, was arrested and taken into custody. A long, single-barrel gun believed to have been used in the assault was recovered from his possession.
‘‘Preliminary investigations suggest the incident was the result of a misunderstanding over palm fruits.
In another development, the police arrested a suspected robber and cultist I Nung Oku in Uyo local Government Area of the state.
According to the PPRO, ‘‘At approximately 4:55AM of September 6, 2025 a surveillance team on an intensive stop-and-search operation at the Nung Oku roundabout, located by Ring Road 3, Uyo, successfully apprehended the suspect.
‘‘The individual, identified as Kufre Aniefiok Akpan, a male from Nkim Village in Itu Local Government Area, was subjected to a search. The search led to the recovery of a cut-to-size double-barrel shotgun, two live cartridges, and various items suspected to be charms.
‘‘During interrogation, Akpan confessed to being an active member of the “Sky Low” secret cult.
Investigation into the matter is ongoing, and further developments will be communicated to the public as they become available,’’ she added.
