Operatives of the Lagos State police command are on manhunt to bring Nigerian Afrobeat singer Seun Kuti to justice for allegedly assaulting a police officer in uniform.

Viral video shows how Seun, son of Fela Kuti, pushed and slapped an unidentified policeman at Third Mainland Bridge, Lagos.

It was unclear what led to the confrontation, but the police officer who leaned a car was calm during the incident.

It is also uncertain when this incident occurred, but the person who shared the video on social media claimed it happened Saturday, May 13.

Meanwhile, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba, has ordered the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command to arrest Seun Kuti, for assaulting a police officer.

A statement released by CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, spokesperson of the Nigeria Police Force, says the IGP has equally ordered a speedy and full investigation into the remote and immediate cause(s) of the assault and prosecution of the suspect accordingly.

Read the statement below… “SERIOUS ASSAULT ON POLICE OFFICER: IGP CONDEMNS ACT, ORDERS IMMEDIATE ARREST OF SEUN KUTI

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba, CFR has ordered the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command to arrest Afrobeat singer, Seun Kuti, who was captured on video assaulting a police officer in uniform.

The IGP has equally ordered a speedy and full investigation into the remote and immediate cause(s) of the assault and prosecution of the suspect accordingly.

IGP Usman Alkali Baba assured Nigerians that acts of contempt/disdain for symbols of authority will not be tolerated while offenders of such hideous crimes will be surely brought to book.

Meanwhile, the assaulted officer has reported to the command headquarters and has given his statement of what transpired between him and the singer.

    Falana to defend Kuti

Human rights lawyer, Femi Falana, says Afrobeat musician, Seun Kuti, has sought his legal services following the singer’s assault on a police officer.

In an interview with Punch, Falana said the singer has enough evidence to defend himself.
“I am his lawyer and he has briefed me. He certainly has evidence. This is not the first time he is dealing with the police.”

Falana also stated that the singer would turn himself in on Monday, May 15.

“He is going to report himself to the police tomorrow morning. There is no problem at all.”

Recall that Falana represented the singer’s father Fela during his agitation against the Nigerian government, which resulted in his own arrest in 1993.
