The Bayelsa State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a police officer who allegedly stabbed his colleague and relation to death.
Sergeant Akpoboloukeme was said to have stabbed Sgt Sapele Eyerindideke, to death at Edepie axis of Yenagoa, on Thursday evening, October 4.
It was gathered that the police officers are cousins and hailed from Torubene community in Delta State.
According to their friends, the duo attended a wedding ceremony at a popular hotel along INEC road in Yenagoa metropolis, where the deceased cracked a minor joke on the table they were seated.
But Sergeant Akpoboloukeme, who is said to be short tempered did not take the joke lightly. He was said to have reacted in a violent manner before he finally stabbed Eyerindideke to death and fled the scene.
He was later arrested at Glory Land drive, the exit route from Yenagoa.
Spokesperson of the command, SP Asinim Butswat, who confirmed the incident said the killer cop was arrested at Glory Land drive, the exit route from Yenagoa and investigation is ongoing.
“An off-duty Police Officer stabbed his colleague with a dagger to death in Yenagoa, over a minor misunderstanding,” Butswat stated.
“The incident occurred on 4th November 2021, at about 1900 hours at Edepie, Yenagoa. It was reported that Sergeant Akpoboloukeme ‘m’ stabbed his colleague, Sgt Sapele Eyerindideke ‘m’ over a minor misunderstanding. The corpse of the deceased has been deposited at the mortuary for autopsy.
“The accused suspect immediately fled the scene and attempted to flee to a nearby state before he was arrested at the Glory Land gate.
“The Commissioner of Police Bayelsa State Command CP Ben Okolo, fdc, has ordered for the detention of the officer and a thorough investigation is underway,” he added.
