The nation earned N797.52 billion as revenue from Value Added Tax (VAT) from January to October 2017, the Minister of Finance, Mrs. Kemi Adeosun, has said. Details of the 2017 VAT collection show that the highest VAT collection of N86.71 billion was achieved in September 2017, while N84.67 billion and N83.315 billion were recorded in May and October, respectively. The lowest VAT earning of N69.20 billion was in March 2017. The figure was an increase of 19.78 per cent over the corresponding period in 2016. The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) has sanctioned 21 broadcast stations in the country for various breaches of the broadcasting code during the third quarter of this year. A statement issued by the Commission Tuesday indicated that the affected stations contravened the Nigerian broadcasting code, which includes breaches of the rules on hateful speech, vulgar lyrics, unverifiable claims and unverifiable claims. “All the erring stations were fined according to the provisions of the Nigerian broadcasting code,” NBC indicated. Oando Plc, recorded impressive turnover of N383.5 billion or 16 per cent in the third quarter of 2017 against N329.9 billion recorded same period last year, while its N247 billion debt was reduced to N229 billion by N18 billion as at December last year. Anti-snake venom drugs worth N8 million have been procured by Gombe State Government for Snake Bite Treatment Centre, Kaltungo. Dr. Kennedy Ishaya, Gombe State Commissioner for Health, who told newsmen in Gombe, said the state government would inform the public as soon as the venom drugs arrive at the centre. Osun State Police command has arrested a 29-year-old man for allegedly raping an 85-year-old woman to coma in Ilesa. Parading the suspect, Kehinde Ariyo, before newsmen in Osogbo, Mr. Fimihan Adeoye, Osun state police commissioner, told journalists that the incident happened at Ogudu area of the town, around 11pm last Friday.
