The Joint Health Sector Unions and Assembly of Healthcare Professionals, JOHESU, has suspended its nine-day-old strike. According to a report monitored on TVC News Nigeria, the union made the decision soon after a nine-hour meeting with representatives of the federal government in Abuja on Saturday. National chairman of the Union, Biobelemoye Josiah, said the strike had been suspended only “in principle”, pursuant to a NEC meeting of the Union which will be held on Tuesday to access the situation and reach a conclusive decision. A 31-year-old man who allegedly stole prepared ‘Indomie’ noodles at a local canteen in Lagos has been arrested by police, charged to court and remanded in prison. Temitope Adeyemi had allegedly ordered for noodles worth N1,000 at the food vendor’s stand at the College of Medicine, Idi-Araba, Lagos, and attempted to flee from there when he had not paid for the food. House of Representatives on Wednesday resolved to summon the Comptroller-General of the Nigerian Customs Service, Hameed Ali and the Director of State Security Services, Maman Daura to brief it on the comprehensive plan to rid Nigeria of the menace of small arms and light weapons. The House also called on the Nigerian Customs Service and other regulatory agencies to intensify checks at the nation’s ports to control the influx of weapons into the country. Executive Director of Women Advocate Research and Documentation Center, Mrs. Abiola Akiode, says 60 per cent of the Nigerian population is jobless.
