The Federal Government has approved the release of N2 billion for the commencement of Maritime University in Okerenkoko, Delta state. This was made known by the Nigerian Presidency on its Twitter handle on Tuesday afternoon. Fear gripped residents of Mobil Housing Estate and Airstrip in Eket Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom over five mock coffins placed at their gates by Afigh Iwaad Ekid, a socio-cultural group in Eket. The Special Anti-Cultism Squad (SPACS), Anambra Police Command, said it had arrested two siblings, Njideka and Chiemeka Onyebukpo, and six others in connection with alleged cult activities. The other suspects are: Chidinma Arinze, Ezedindu Chidubem, Chinedu Chukwuka, Chinedu Ikediaso, Nwabueze Ifechukwu and Arinze Obinka. The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has said that it arrested a total of one hundred and forty criminal suspects in the last one month. The state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Zubairu Muazu, disclosed this last Tuesday while parading some of the suspects during his maiden press briefing at the command headquarters in Ikot Akpan Abia, Uyo. The Benue Flood Camp recently opened for people displaced by the flood disaster in Makurdi town and its environs has been hit by cases of Malaria fever and fungal infections. Also rampant in the camp are cases of respiratory and unitary track infections due to poor and inadequate toilet facilities for use in the camp. At least 852 domestic violence, rape and attempted cases, child neglect and abuse, defilement, among others, were recorded in Lagos State between January 1 and August 31, this year. However, the Domestic and Sexual Violence Response Team (DSVRT), secured four conviction including two, who were sentenced to four years imprisonment for child abuse and two others to 14 years and 10 years for sexual violence in the state. A total of 55 husbands have reported to the Lagos State Government how their wives battered them in renewed cases of domestic violence in the state. The Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Lagos State, Adeniji Kazeem at a media briefing in Ikeja, Lagos, Monday, revealed that more men were now coming forward to report cases of violence against them by their womenfolk. A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos, Monday, remanded two bureau de change operators to prison custody over alleged N162 million fraud, pending the hearing of their bail application. Seven National Diploma (ND) students of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY), Ogun State, have been arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, over alleged internet scam, forgery of financial instruments and lottery scam.The suspects are: Adesina Olalekan, Makinde Noheem, Toheeb Ogunowo, Somotun Olusola, Somotun Sodiq, Tajudeen Hafeez Bolaji and Kareem Olaseni. A 40 year-old man has been arrested for allegedly stabbing his wife, a staff of Globacom, to death at the Kpansia suburb of Yenagoa, Bayelsa State capital.
