After 17 years, the Senate during plenary on Wednesday reworked and passed the Petroleum Industry Governance Bill (PIGB), Electoral Act amendment Bill 2019, and five other bills rejected by President Buhari. The Senate passed these bills after its technical committee worked on President Buhari’s observations and re-drafted the affected clauses. The PIGB seeks to make the Nigerian Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NPRC) the sole regulator overseeing the licensing, monitoring and supervising of petroleum operations. The Supreme Court, Wednesday, affirmed Kayode Fayemi as the incumbent governor of Ekiti State. The court dismissed the suit filed by Chief Segun Oni against the incumbent for being incompetent. Oni in the suit claimed that Fayemi was not eligible to run as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for not resigning as Minister of Mines and Steel Development 30 days before the party’s primary election. For the12th time, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) measuring inflation dipped by 11.25 per cent (year-on-year) in March, National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) confirmed Tuesday. The reduction translates to 0.06 per cent points lower than the 11.31 per cent figure recorded in February. The composite food index rose by 13.45 per cent in March 2019 compared to 13.47 per cent in February 2019. Three policemen and four persons in Akwa Ibom State are to die by hanging for kidnapping, the state High Court in Uyo handed down the death sentence to the victims. The court presided by Justice Joy Unwana (extended jurisdiction) convicted Cpl Emmanuel Charlie, Cpl Bassey Sunday (377812) and PC Mfon Bassey (478463) for the offence. Atiku Abubakar, presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has insisted the result from the server of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, shows he defeated President Muhammadu Buhari in the presidential election. The Nigerian Navy has declared four crew members of (MV Grace Water) wanted for the theft of 90 tons of crude oil in the nation’s exclusive economic zone. This follows the complicity the crew members in illegally sourced petroleum products aboard the Merchant Vessel.
