On the day-break of US mid-term election results, another key cabinet member has gotten the shock of his life in the two-year and few- months-old President Donald Trump administration. President Donald Trump fired Attorney General Jeff Sessions on Wednesday after a yearlong public shaming campaign that raised questions about whether the president improperly interfered with the Justice Department’s inquiry into Russian meddling in the 2016 election. Trump, who requested Sessions’ resignation, named Matthew Whitaker to serve as interim attorney general. Whitaker was Sessions’ chief of staff and had been considered for a variety of jobs in the Trump administration, including the No. 2 post…
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Wednesday, charged the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) and INTERPOL to help track down Adams Oshiomhole, the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC). The party alleged that the chairman is on the run outside the country since his reported interrogation by the Department of State Services (DSS) over alleged corruption charges. A press release signed by Kola Ologbondiyan, the PDP National Publicity Secretary noted that Adams Oshiomhole’s swift flight out of the country, at the heat of the investigation, is suspect and goes to confirm allegations that the Muhammadu Buhari Presidency is shielding him…

Moreover, Dr. Daniel Udoh, ASUU Chairman, University of Uyo Chapter, has pointedly cast the reneging action of the Federal Government in the mould of insincerity to deny Nigerian people affordable and quality education. Udoh speaking on Thursday in an interview with Planet 101.1 FM, Uyo staffer, rued “It is very sad to observe that the Federal Government…
Nigeria and United States of America appear like siamese twins in not allowing the dead to rest in peace but relish in assigning them roles in the political space, Straightnews has found out. While a Nigerian President in December 2017 appointed dead persons to superintend over boards and commissions, US voters Tuesday elected a dead person into congress to legislate for them. This was the drama that played during US mid-term elections as a brothel owner and reality TV star has won his race in Nevada — even though he died last month Dennis Hof, who ran as a Republican,…
A former Speaker of the second Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly has passed a vote-of-no confidence on Akwa Ibom Governor, Udom Emmanuel over what he described as poor performance in governance. Mr. Bassey Essien, who was the first speaker in the assembly that began from 1999, said “There is a fundamental change we must execute in Akwa Ibom State. If Udom Emmanuel had performed, all Esit Eket would have supported him. ‘’But we are unanimous in passing a vote-of-no confidence on his administration especially as it concerns Esit Eket. He has not performed and I challenge anyone to contradict…

President Donald Trump may in for difficult times in pushing through his legislations, policies and programmes as the Democrats take control of the US House of Representatives in the mid-term elections. A Democratic majority in the lower chamber for the first time in eight years will restrict Trump’s ability to steer his programme through Congress. However, Mr Trump’s Republicans have a firm grip of the Senate, having won majority seats. Tuesday’s vote was seen as a referendum on a polarising president, even though he is not up for re-election till 2020. The election confirms a historical trend for the party…
Deontay Wilder says he has “transformed into a killer” before his world title fight with Tyson Fury in Los Angeles. Wilder and Fury meet on 1 December, in what will be just the third bout of Fury’s comeback since the Briton vacated his WBO and WBA titles to focus on treatment for depression. WBC heavyweight champion Wilder, who has a 40-0 unbeaten record, also said Anthony Joshua was “a coward”. “I’m feeling wonderful. My mindset and body have changed,” the American said. In June, a potential fight with WBA, IBF and WBO champion Joshua was set back after the Briton…
