Twelve political parties in Akwa Ibom have been cleared for the forthcoming local government election in the state. The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Heineken Lokpobiri has directed the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) to sell petrol above the landing cost, which currently stands at N1,117 per litre. This, according to him, will prevent the smuggling of the products to neighbouring countries which sell above N1000. Lokpobiri, who stated this in Abuja, bashed security agencies for being complicit in the smuggling activities. The Akwa Ibom State Nigeria Union of Journalists is facing a difficult time following the surprise death of its two members in Uyo Monday. The Akwa Ibom State Police Command said it raided a criminal hideout at Ring Road 3 in Uyo, busting a drug trafficking syndicate and arresting two suspects.
