The Kwara State Police has arrested five suspected ritual killers in Ilorin, the state capital, for allegedly being in possession of 11 human skulls and other parts of the body. The state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Bolaji Fafowora, who paraded the suspects on Friday in Ilorin, identified them as Azeez Yakub, Salima Azeez, Isah Wasiu, Abubakar Isiaka and Soliu Yakub. He said exhibits recovered from the suspects included various suspected human bones and hair. A new president for the 62-year-old Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) was elected on Friday to pilot the affairs of the body for the next three years. He is Chris Isiguzo, the South-East Bureau Chief of ThisDay newspapers, the immediate past Vice president of Zone C of the union. The 202 cases of violence against persons recorded in Akwa Ibom State in six years drastically dropped in five years owing to hoarding of information by the victims, Straightnews has gathered. An investigation carried out by Straightnews shows that many victims of wife battery and widow disinheritance are afraid of reprisal attacks by the suspects while other persons particularly rape victims hoard information for fear of being stigmatised in the society. Parents and relations of rape victims from Akwa Ibom State who receive financial compensation from perpetrators to cover up suspects have been warned to desist from such action.
