The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) and Centre for Journalism Innovation and Development (CJID) have filed a lawsuit against President Muhammadu Buhari over the N5 million fine on Channels Television. In the suit, they are asking the court to “declare arbitrary, illegal and unconstitutional the N5m fine imposed on Channels Television over a recent interview with the Labour Party vice-presidential candidate, Datti Baba-Ahmed.” Joined in the suit as Defendants are the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) and Mr Lai Mohammed, Minister of Information and Culture. The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced a new date for commencement of the 2023 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations. The board stated this in a statement signed by its Head of Public Affairs and Protocol, Dr Fabian Benjamin, in Abuja on Sunday. Benjamin said the UTME which was earlier fixed to commence on April 29, is now rescheduled to April 25, 2023. The House of Representatives, on Thursday, agreed to probe the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited over the alleged diversion and conversion of N20 billion by its officials to payment of consultants. The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has called for redistribution of N132 billion to ensure 90 per cent goes to the tertiary institutions. This came as Federal Government recently approved N320.3 billion 2023 intervention for public tertiary institutions in the country.
