Akwa Ibom State Government has approved N450 million as counterpart funds for the Nigeria For Women Project, a World Bank project aimed at empowering the women.  Announcing this when he hosted a World Bank delegation led by the Country Director for Nigeria, Mr. Shudham Chaudhury, at the Executive Council Chambers, Government House, Uyo, Governor Umo Eno said this demonstrated his commitment to ensuring Akwa Ibom State benefits optimally from World Bank initiatives. Akwa Ibom government is said to have collected more revenue in the third quarter of this year compared to same period last year. The executive Chairman of Akwa Ibom Internal Revenue Service, Mr. Okon Okon who announced this during interaction with journalists in Uyo on Wednesday did not disclose the figure, saying that the amount has not yet been audited for publication. A 28-year-old man is facing death penalty for robbing the Vice Principal (Academics) at Community Secondary Commercial School in Ikot Andem Itam in Itu Local Government Area. Ndifreke Essien Urua, the convict, who hails from Ikot Andem Itam, was found to have brandished a machete and forcefully collected the Vice Principal’s handbag, that contained recharge cards with N200,000, a Nokia phone, and N16,000 cash. A father of seven from Ikot Use Ekong in Eket Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State would die by hanging for kidnapping a four-year-old boy who has not been found till date. The five-month-old Governor Umo Eno administration of Akwa Ibom State is said to have obtained N1.2 billion loans described as ‘illegal’ in its existence. This is as the immediate past administration under ex-Governor Udom Emmanuel purportedly left more than N233 billion debt profile for his successor.
