The country is said to have executed a dozen in 10 days despite the Crown Prince’s promise to limit capital punishment. Two female police officers heading to Uyo, the Akwa Ibom capital for Police Sporting event died in an auto crash. The officers- PC Godiya and PC Kubra- who worked with the Borno state police command, perished along Jos axis. The Chief Superintendent of Customs, Deputy Route Commander of FRSC, medical doctors and two other persons in Cross River State have been freed by kidnappers. Vanguard reported that the tactical teams on Anti-Kidnapping in Cross River State rescued the six victims unharmed around Uyanga rubber plantations in Akamkpa Local Government Area of the state by their abductors in the early hours of Tuesday, November 22. Akwa Ibom Government is said to have collected N280 billion as the 13 per cent crude oil derivation backlog from the Federal Government. The Pharmacy Council of Nigeria (PCN) has sealed about 381 pharmacies and patent shops in Akwa Ibom State for various offences. The Director and Head of Enforcement Department, Pharm Stephen Esumobi, who disclosed this while briefing newsmen in Uyo on Friday, said most of the affected shops were sealed for operating without registration or renewal of premises certificates, unauthorized sales of medicines of abuse and poor access control to the poison cupboard. Rivers Governor Nyesom Wike has spilled beans by naming the benefiting nine crude oil-producing states in the Niger Delta region that collected the 13% derivation monies backlog. The benefiting states are Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Abia, Edo, Delta, Ondo, Lagos, Imo, and Rivers States. The 13 percent derivation fund comes from the federation revenue to oil-producing communities through the state governments as enshrined in section 162, sub-section 2 of the 1999 Nigerian Constitution (as amended).
