No fewer than 20,000 refugees who fled the Republic of Cameroon are seeking asylum in Taraba State, Nigeria. The refugees camping in five local government areas of Sardauna, Kurmi, Gashaka, Ussa and Takum, are appealing to federal and state governments as well as Non-Governmental Organizations for assistance to ameliorate their sufferings. The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) says it will freeze accounts without a Bank Verification Number (BVN) or National Identification Number (NIN) from April 2024.  This is according to a Friday circular by the apex bank which instructed banks to place a “Post no Debit” restriction – which prevents customers from making withdrawals, transfers, or any other debits “for all existing Tier-1 accounts/wallets without BVN or NIN”. “Effective immediately, any unfunded account/wallet shall be placed on ‘Post No Debit or Credit’ until the new process is satisfied.  Effective March 1, 2024, all funded accounts or wallets shall be placed on…

Nemesis has caught with 26 students of the University of Uyo (UNIUYO) in Akwa Ibom State over their alleged involvement in various offences inimical to the image of the institution. Their offences range from indulging in such sundry crimes as academic frauds to other anti-social behaviours, impinging negatively on the image of the university. A 37-year-old man, a native of Efoi in Eket Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State was, Wednesday, sentenced to life imprisonment for defiling two minors. Aged 14 and 15, the victims are students of a secondary school in Eket. Uduak Moses Idimudo was sentenced by an Akwa Ibom State High Court in Eket. Ahead of the 2023 Calabar Carnival, the Cross River State Government has released N100 million grant to the first 10 selected hotels in Calabar to give their facilities a facelift. The grant was handed over on Tuesday at Marina Resort Calabar by the managing director of the state tourism board, Prince Ojoi Ekpenyong, on the directive of the state governor, Prince Bassey Otu. Nigeria’s Supreme Court has ruled that both the old and new Naira notes will continue to coexist until further notice. The redesigning of the Naira notes was done by the then Central Bank of Nigeria Governor under the immediate past administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.
