A former Peoples Democratic Party governorship aspirant in Akwa Ibom State, Bassey Albert, on Friday, removed the PDP’s flags in his campaign office, and hoisted Young Peoples Party’s flags. Albert, a two-term Senator representing Akwa Ibom North East Senatorial District, had earlier on Friday resigned his membership of the PDP in a letter he sent to the chairman of the party in his ward in Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State. This was immediately after his political supporters lost in their attempt to get a Federal High Court in Abuja to cancel the PDP primaries in the state. Read also…
A Federal High Court in Abuja on Friday dismissed a suit filed by some aggrieved members of Akwa Ibom Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) against the party over the alleged conduct of the state’s primary elections. Delivering judgment, Justice Obiora Egwuatu, held that the suit lacked merit. Justice Egwuatu said that the plaintiffs, having not participated in the elections, lacked the locus standi to institute the suit. “The court is merely stating the obvious that the plaintiffs lacked the right to challenge a process they never participated.” Read also Iwok vs PDP: Court fixes July 15 for final Judgement Iwok vs…

U.S. President Joe Biden and Israeli Prime Minister Yair Lapid signed a joint pledge on Thursday to deny Iran nuclear arms, a show of unity by allies long divided over diplomacy with Tehran. The undertaking, part of a “Jerusalem Declaration” crowning Biden’s first visit to Israel as president, came a day after he told a local TV station that he was open to “last resort” use of force against Iran – an apparent move toward accommodating Israel’s calls for a “credible military threat” by world powers. “We will not allow Iran to acquire a nuclear weapon,” Biden told a news…

A governorship candidate under Allied Peoples Movement (AMP), Mr. Daniel King Ebong, gunning for the soul of Akwa Ibom in the 2023 general elections, has raised alarm that things seem to have fallen apart in Akwa Ibom State. In a remark reminiscent of the novel title: Things Fall Apart by prolific writer Chinua Achebe, he bemoaned those he described as ‘indigenous predators’ who in collusion with ‘strangers’ are squandering and carting away the state resources. APM was registered as a political party in Nigeria by Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in August 2018. Read also: ‘We have no political party…
