Thirty-three families of deceased officers who paid the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty received cheques of N37,280,296.36. The Akwa Ibom State Commissioner of Police, CP Baba Mohammed Azare made the presentation on Tuesday at the conference room of the Command Headquarters, Ikot Akpan Abia, Uyo. The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) has warned that it may shut down medical services across the country if the Federal Government fails to address its demands before the expiration of its 21-day ultimatum on Wednesday, July 23. Some retired police officers took to the streets of Abuja on Monday in a peaceful protest to draw attention to the poor welfare conditions of serving and retired members of the Nigeria Police Force. The retirees who are disconcerted with the Police Contributory Pension Scheme sought a discontinuation from the scheme to enable them collect their full pensions and gratuity.
