Brazil football legend and three-time World Cup winner Pele, has died at age 82. Pele had been treated for colon cancer, following surgery to remove a tumour in September 2021, and had required regular medical treatment. After being admitted back into the hospital at the end of November to re-evaluate his cancer treatment, he was diagnosed with a respiratory infection before subsequently being moved to palliative care when his body became unresponsive to chemotherapy. The President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Prof. George Obiozor is dead, Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma has confirmed. The Igbo leader’s exit had been widely speculated since Monday, December 26, but was later dispelled by officials of the apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation. Cross River Governor Ben Ayade has ordered discontinuation and investigation into Bikers/Exotic Cars parade of the Calabar Carnival tragedy as about seven persons were feared killed and over 20 injured. After 28 days at the Ikot Ekpene Correctional Centre, Senator Bassey Albert Akpan, Wednesday, regained freedom following the bail granted him by the Court of Appeal in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital. Joseph “Jo Mersa” Marley, the grandson of reggae exponent Bob Marley, has died at the age of 31, US media reported. Joseph was the son of Grammy Award-winning musician Stephen Marley and a well-regarded reggae artist in his own right. The distraught mother of Bolanle Raheem, a lawyer who was shot dead in Lagos, said she hawked oranges to send her to study Law in the university. The deceased’s mother said this on Tuesday while speaking with Abiodun Alabi, Lagos police commissioner, during a condolence visit by the latter. President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday condemned the “heinous and senseless” killing of a Lagos-based lawyer, Bolanle Raheem, by a trigger-happy Assistant Superintendent of Police, Drambi Vandi. Raheem was shot dead on Christmas Day by Vandi who was attached to Ajiwe Police Station in Ajah. The Court of Appeal, Abuja has reserved judgment in an appeal filed by the sacked Akwa Ibom governorship aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr. Akanimo Udofia, against the judgement of a lower court.
